COMING SOON Shadow Wars, the Shadow News site game, isn't live yet. These pages explain how it will work.

Short version: we collect as little as possible, we don't sell anything, and the game data stays on this site.

Reading the site

You can read Shadow News without an account. Our host (Cloudflare) keeps standard technical logs, like IP address and browser type, to run and protect the site. We don't run ad trackers.

Log in with X

Shadow Wars uses Log in with X. That login is read-only. When you log in, we read your basic X profile once and store only:

your X user id
your handle
your display name
the link to your profile picture
timestamps: when you first joined ("Member since") and when your profile was last updated
a login session id, kept in a secure cookie in your browser (we keep only a scrambled copy of it, and it expires after 30 days or when you log out)

We do not get or store your email address or password, and we can't post, like, follow or send messages for you. We don't keep your X access token either: it's used once to read your profile when you log in, then thrown away.

Game data

We store what you do in the game (points, posts you own, achievements, crew, reports, and a log of actions so we can fix cheating and bugs). To stop alt accounts and farming we may keep scrambled (hashed) device and network markers, never your raw IP address. Game data is used only to run Shadow Wars on this site.

If you sign up for the weekly email, your email address is handled by our newsletter provider (Kit) only to send that email. You can unsubscribe from any email.

What we don't do

We don't sell or rent your data.
We don't share it with advertisers.
We don't use it outside this site.

Deleting your data

Message @ShadowNewsHQ on X to have your game account and data deleted. You can also remove the Shadow News app's access any time in your X settings.
